Themes: A wooden sculpture offers an intimate sensorial relation between the wood and the spectator’s body, revealing an audio and video recollection when the two come into physical contact

Sensitive matter is a sculpture created from a very fine and delicate sheet of veneer, in this case from natural ash wood. This sheet has distinctive tactile audio and video zones, which follow the veins of the wood’s surface. The sculpture was intended as an instrument to reveal a journey which affects all of the senses.

The research carried out by the artists at Scenocosme allows them to develop a technique and an artistic process that are invisible and delicate. Their scrupulous work thereby allows them to compose a perceptible audio division, which reveals different patterns on the wood at the moment of (electrostatic) contact.

Scenocosme has invented the “interactive marquetry” method. This wooden sculpture offers an intimate sensorial relation between the wood and the spectator’s body, revealing an audio-video recollection when the two come into physical contact.
