Interactive digital artwork
Materials, techniques and processes: computer, wide-angle video projector, kinect
Dimensions: size of projection varies; but the image has a base of at least 3 m
Themes: the creation of a gesture - on a household scale - where all are invited to dance
Social Body is an interactive digital artwork by Maflohé Passedouet.
The artwork comprises a video projection whose base is at least 3 meters long. A kinect device captures the movements of the participants.
The artwork splits into two sequences. During the first sequence, each participant is invited to dance, one by one, in front of the screen. The participant’s silhouette is recorded and then projected in a continuous loop onto a coloured box on the screen. Gradually, the boxes build up to form the rooms of a doll’s house.
At the end of the cycle, the looped videos fill up all of the 9 coloured boxes comprising the house. Then, the house disappears; allowing the silhouettes to dance together in a circle below. Ultimately, individually constructed movements come together to form a collective image.
Co-production by Mobilis-Immobilis/Fées d’Hiver/ Blue Yéti. Maflohé Passedouet, the artistic director of Mobilis-Immobilis, coproduced this hybrid form with the Lab and arts centre Fées d’Hiver and the interactive concept creator Blue Yeti, with co-creators and heads of the companies, Erik Lorré and Jean-Michel Couturier
